About the game

Kattvik is a game for people who want to make notes, draw images, and figure out puzzles with pen and paper. You are expected to do this whilst playing, but don't be scared - you've got time, and you can do all of this your own way. There are no expectations of you and what you make, your role is to solve the game, and figure out what all your notes and drawings mean. Sounds special right? The game is in development and I’m still figuring out what makes a notebook interaction game, but the fun thing is - now you are, too!

A small warning, or maybe an encouragement is to stop and think, evaluate your notes, and maybe start over if things get too confusing. Do your best to do it right, but try! Only play if you're willing to be fully engaged. The game unfortunately doesn’t have an ending yet, it’s just a sneak peak of things to come. Have some patience and stop playing when you can't find anything new anymore, there are a lot of loose ends.

Preparations

• For an immersive experience you will need to take notes, sometimes  sketch the things shown to you, and a love for categorising will always help. 
• Some knowledge of cartography is a beneficial skill, but not a necessity.  
• A good pen and a brand-new notebook for the purpose of the game, is a must. 
• I recommend a plain page notebook in size A5 or A4+ with at least 80-gram paper, a black ink pen like a reservoir pen or a fine liner, and a pencil and eraser.

So, what is this?

I’ve made this game as a design project with the goal to investigate how player engagement is affected from physical interactions with pen and paper to augment the virtual experience. The goal was to see how a game could be designed for that purpose, and which interactions would work to make players engaged in the experience. So, this is my result.
